Was America

America, your ideals had such height.
The earth had never known a people's state,
where liberty and justice were the right
of every citizen to celebrate.
It wasn't guns that undermined the aim
which real Americans had died to hold.
Our courts deserve the lash of traitor's shame,
for rules that twist "just how" the truth is told.
Our Laws, which once assured the Truth full-share,
are now a club the prosecutor swings,
to shirk an unsure trial, and to scare
a man to swear to damning untrue things.
Wage Freedom! Wage Honor! No higher cause
will vindicate our desecrated laws.
