Thorns and Hemlock

Copernicus saw stars within his mind.
Though hushed, he freed old Aristotle's ghost.
When Galileo proved religion blind,
those solidly devout suppressed him most.
The math of Isaac Newton locked as law
that perfect dance of physics, mass and force.
His vision showed that Nature knows no flaw.
This irony was lost in church, of course.
Proud pharisees appear in every age
and rise through Power's throne to block the road,
then piously exterminate the sage.
God Damn their tiny eyes, may they explode!
How many times will superstitution crown
itself a king on tears of grace torn down?
