As all men know, this world both gives and takes.
Shakespeare called this life. 'an idiot's tale.'
He wasn't wrong. The endless hoards of flakes,
and hogs and snakes, have sullied life's bright trail
with ambushes, and cynic's luckless woe.
With humans prone to accidents and zings
of fate, and hunger, cold and fist of foe,
you'd think they'd gird their minds and life with things
enhancing self, to strengthen wit and will.
Instead, they're drunk on drugs that rot the brain
and guard their meager trove of toys, which kills
the drive to find true wisdom's golden vein.
Since monkeys became men, the challenge waits
for those who'd spurn 'junk-love', for higher states.
