Behold the Real Zoo

The silverback gorillas at the zoo,
alarmed to see the human toddler fall
into their small corral, sniffed at his shoe.
The alpha buck poked at the sleeping doll,
but just that quick, the matriarch made claim
by sweeping up the child. Her eyes warned all.
She found the door through which the humans came
and waited there, her back against the wall.
The implications dense in this event
suggest that rooted world views are wrong,
and souls, more like our own than most assent
to, join the tribe to which we all belong.
What precious rescuings, what mystic sign,
move Sapiens to seek that door Divine?
