Carriage, Horse and Driver - 1

Within the public house, the driver naps
in drunken trance, lost mindless in life's plot.
Outside, the battered coach portends collapse
from disrepair. The horse's coat is fraught
with knots, and rib cage shows he's not been fed.
This droll scenario conveys the state
of most men, all but dead in heart and head.
As symbols here, the horse portrays innate
emotions, frayed and baffled, while the mind
as the besotted driver, must awake.
The carriage is the 'physical' combined
with sense based self, in shambles about to break.
When driver tends his horse and coach with pride,
the Master may summon the cab and ride.
